A bit about me and my website
Hello there.
My name is ( ) and I live just a few miles from the stunning coastline of North Devon. By trade I'm a scientific writer, a role that generally keeps me pretty busy and out of mischief.
Although I have no formal training in art, crafts or design (unless you count a very vintage art GCSE), I’ve always loved making things. Jewellery, soft toys, and a trail of other crafts and artsy experiments have kept me entertained over the years.
I feel most at home when I'm creating, and with the natural beauty of the Devon coast and its surrounding landscapes on my doorstep, it's impossible not to feel inspired.
"The purpose of our lives is to be happy." - Dalai Lama.
After taking a lengthy break from anything art-related due to other commitments, it's exciting to be returning to this much-loved hobby. I've set up this website as a way to bring my pictures and jewellery designs together in one place, but it’s also a space to capture snapshots of a creative journey.
Creativity is a continual process of discovery. Much of my learning comes from reading or watching tutorials, but mostly it's through embracing numerous trials and errors. Challenges overcome, lessons and skills learnt along the way often leave their trace in future projects. Because I’m pretty much self‑taught, it's fun to see how my pieces evolve - what quirks emerge and what techniques stick. I'm also intrigued to discover the occasional unexpected outcome that hints at becoming a future “signature feature".
My day job often runs on tight deadlines, so anything I make for Shoreline Stones is strictly done very much in the slow lane. The luxury of time offers peaceful moments to potter about and think things through. It also allows me the freedom to enjoy whatever project I’m working on, or dreaming up next.
On the Gallery page, you’ll find a small collection of the pictures and jewellery designs created so far. I’ll keep adding to it over time, gradually building up a little portfolio.
If I’m feeling particularly brave, I may even dip my toe into the world of e‑commerce and pop a few items onto Etsy (there’s a link on the Shop page). As this is just a hobby, everything will be made in tiny batches, or as one‑off pieces. Consequently, anything purchased will be either rare or completely unique.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy exploring the pieces on the following pages as much as I've enjoyed making them.
Happy browsing!
Footnote: I'm afraid I can't claim any credit for the pebble border and sea-themed spacer illustrations - these were royalty free images sourced online. I added them to the site brighten up empty web pages, as filling a 'blank canvas' initially felt a little daunting. I’ve grown rather fond of them, so they’re staying for now.
